Mozambique & Zimbabwe Explorer (Northbound)
Day 1. Johannesburg to Komatipoort
From Johannesburg - South Africa’s commercial capital - we travel to the far east of the country to the town of Komatipoort for our first night on tour.
Day 2. Komatipoort to Inhambane/Tofo Beach
This morning we leave South Africa and cross the border into Mozambique. We make our way to the coastal town of Inhambane, where we will spend the next two night exploring the area, relaxing on the tropical beaches and sampling the many optional activities on offer - Snorkelling and scuba diving, just to name a few.
Day 3. Tofo Beach Highlights. Tofo, Inhambane, Mozambique.
Today relax on the beach soaking up some sun or enjoy some of the ocean based activities available.
Day 4. Tofo to Vilanculos
We leave Inhambane today taking the scenic coastal route past rural villages to Vilanculos. Named after a local tribal chief the town has a lively atmosphere and friendly people. Our camp is located near the white sands and turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
Day 5. Vilanculos
This morning we take a Dhow sailing boat to Magaruque Island where you can enjoy this island at leisure swimming, snorkelling, hiking, waling or relaxing on the beach.
Day 6. Vilanculos to Xai-Xai
We drive south today making our way to the capital of the Gaza Province, the town of Xai-Xai situated on the banks of the Limpopo River to overnight.
Day 7. Xai-Xai to Hazyview
Leaving the warm Indian Ocean behind, we make our way back into South Africa today making our way to Hazyview where we are close to South Africa's premier game reserve, Kruger National Park.
Day 8. Kruger National Park
We wake early this morning and board 4x4 safari vehicles for a full days game drive around this magnificent park. Keep any eye for the wildlife here with almost 150 mammals and over 500 bird species living here.
Day 9. Hazyview to Tshipise
We travel through South Africa's countryside today making our way to the town of Tshipise in the northern Limpopo Province. Our campsite tonight is next to the Honnet Nature Reserve.
Day 10. Tshipise to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
We continue our adventure through Zimbabwe travelling westwards to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second largest city where we will spend the next two nights. We stop to stock up on supplies and explore the markets before continuing to our camp a short distance out of town close to the Matobo hills.
Day 11. Matobo National Park
Transferring from our truck into smaller 4x4 game viewing vehicles we are accompanied by a professional guide into the nearby Matobo National Park. Here we explore the park and surrounding hills and we may be lucky enough to leave the vehicle and track some of the wild animals on foot. There is the option to extend this to a full day which will include a historical tour.
Day 12. Bulawayo to Hwange National Park
Continuing on through Zimbabwe our next port of call is the oldest park in Zimbabwe, Hwange. This magnificent park is home to large populations of a variety of animals including all the 'Big 5'. It is also known for its success with the conservation of the Painted Dog, the African Wild Dog. We enjoy a late afternoon game drive with a professional guide in open 4x4 game viewing vehicles.
Day 13. Hwange National Park to Victoria Falls.
Leaving the park we embark on the final leg of the journey into the small town of Victoria Falls. First stop is visiting the falls themselves and we explore the paths along the edge of the gorge where the Zambezi plunges some 100 metres. Its truly an awe inspiring site. The Victoria Falls area is an adventure lovers paradise with a wide variety of activities on offer. Our team here will be able to run through the options and make the necessary arrangements
Day 14. Victoria Falls
After breakfast this morning our journey comes to an end but we recommend spending some extra time in the area to enjoy some of what is on offer.
