Voluntour in northern Thailand

This tour includes plenty of fun activities and opportunities to help local communities. You will have a chance to teach in a local kindergarten, work in the fields with locals, try yourself at daily tasks in a local village, explore the jungle and learn how to survive there, feed and bathe the elephants at a local elephant camp and much more!

If you're interested in learning about local way of life in a meaningful way, this it a perfect program for you!

Day 1

We pick you up at 8 AM from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and drive to Mae Wang countryside for a bit less than an hour. We first stop at a local market and buy everything we'll need for the next five days. Then we drive to our cycling start point from where we cycle in the countryside for about two hours. Along the way we see local villages, farmland, fruit plantations, waterways and we can also cycle uphill to a local Buddhist temple and enjoy the view from there.

After cycling we take a well-earned lunch break at a local restaurant and from there drive up the mountain to a local Karen tribe village where you have some free time followed by a cooking class in the evening. You learn to prepare local northern Thai dishes.

After dinner you spend the night as guests with a local family.

Day 2

After breakfast we go to local school where you help until lunch. You might play with children, teach them English or help the teacher with daily tasks.

After lunch we have a first part of Karen weaving class and set up wooden loom to start weaving the traditional striped pattern.

In the evening you have dinner and spend another night in the village.

Day 3

After breakfast you help local villagers with daily tasks. Your assignment depends on what is needed in the village. During rice planting and harvesting, you work in the rice fields. Before rice planting, fields need to be prepared with buffalos. If there's nothing to be done in the fields, you help aroudn the houses. You could grind rice or help with crafts.

After lunch, you have a second part of Karen weaving class. Today you finish the pattern you started. It might be a bag, scarf, cloth, or a simple shirt. You take the finished item home with you.

After dinner, you spend the nigth in the village.

Day 4

After breakfast we head into the jungle. It's jungle survival day! You learn about local plants and animals from your guide and stop at a local waterfall where you cook a jungle style lunch in bamboo.

In the afternoon you trek to Spicy Villa Eco-lodges where you have a second Thai cooking lesson. The dishes you learn to prepare are local and you won't be able to learn them elsewhere.

After dinner you spend the night in a private bungalow.

Day 5

After breakfast we visit a local elephant camp and learn about the elephants and how to communicate with them. We also prepare herbal medicine for the elephants and have a healing mud bath with them. At the end of our visit, we take them to a local waterfall and bathe with them.

After lunch we drive to Wang river and go bamboo rafting for about an hour. This is a relaxing activity and you can enjoy the countryside as you float down the river.

In the afternoon we drive back to Chiang Mai.
