Karanambu Eco-lodge/Ranch Project

The Experience

Venture and become a part of our team at our Karanambu Eco-Lodge/ Ranch project located in the North Rupununi, a region of South-Western Guyana known for its expansive wetlands and savannahs! Become a volunteer now and work with our fantastic team as we continue to develop one of Guyana’s premier Eco-Lodges. In Karanambu, you will form bonds that go beyond friendship while having the opportunity to share and develop skills in the areas of tourism, hospitality, conservation, ranching, construction and carpentry.

At Karanambu, we are always so passionate to share the experience of the untouched natural beauty in this remote corner of South America. Volunteers can expect to work within all the fields offered at this project, though some of these may overlap due to the specific needs of the different components that make up Karanambu. There are also opportunities to visit and do outreach work in the neighboring Macusi villages of Kwaimatta, Yupukari, Massara, Toka and Simuni. We look forward to welcoming you to be part of the Karanambu family!

This Is Why

  • One of the last real frontiers found on Earth
  • Living on a conservation site
  • Untouched land and river system and an expansive biodiversity!

Placement
Karanambu Eco-lodge/Ranch Project
Accommodation
Volunteers will be staying in shared rooms (Volunteer/Researcher Quarters)
Meals
3 meals a day provided.
Transfers & pick ups
On arrival in Georgetown one of our representatives will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Georgetown where you will stay 1 night. Our Georgetown coordinator will then take you around in case if you need to get money or anything from the stores before you take your domestic flight (also included). There will be several transfers domesticially by plane, car and 4x4 and in all cases you will be picked up until you arrive back in Georgetown.
Work permit
For volunteering in Guyana a work permit is required as well as premmission needed to visit the Amerindian reserves. This will all be arranged after your arrival (as Guyana has no embassies abroad) and will be HASSLE FREE for you. The fee for this is included in the program cost.
Mail and Communications
It is possible to receive and send mail from the town of Lethem via our Fronteering representative, however the postal service is very variable in such a remote area and the process regularly takes over a month. It is not unheard of never to reach it's destination! There will be internet connection and cell phone reception in both Georgetown and Lethem. There will be internet connection via satellite in the community, but it is worth noting that this can be very slow! There is no mobile phone reception outside of Georgetown and Lethem.
Ongoing service
If there are any problems with your volunteer project we are always there to help you and mediate between yourself and the organization.
Tours
Through FRONTEERING you have the possibility to book tours, Spanish (at nearby Isla Magaritha) and English Courses in Guyana before and/or after you have finished your volunteer project.
24/7 Emergency contact
If there are any problems during you stay at the project you can reach us 24/7 to assist you.

About Fronteering

FRONTEERING aims to arrange volunteer abroad and adventure travel experiences in places less visited and unspoiled. FRONTEERING’s projects help with true good causes in some of the last frontiers. Places where the need is greater, where there is more to lose and much more to gain. Join one of FRONTEERINGS Volunteer Abroad projects and visit these last frontiers while they are yet unspoiled and hopefully through our combined efforts we can keep it that way!

Imagine the sounds of night fading away while in the distance the horizon starts to brighten. You wake up listening to a serenade of thousands of tropical birds and an awakening jungle. Parrots fly overhead with their loud squawks, howler monkeys greet the sun with loud voices while you relax a few more minutes in your jungle hammock! Staring through the jungle canopy you see the blue sky lightening up between the trees.
It is this experience common in some of our volunteer projects and adventure travel trips in Central & South America that got me involved in setting up volunteer projects and adventure travel trips to help with long term sustainability of our last wildernesses and to protect it’s wildlife and the way of life of indigenous communities.
