Summary

Yachtmaster Ocean Traineeship

The course is based in the spectacular setting of the Flying Fish Sail Academy at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, Sydney. Inshore you sail in Australia’s favourite yachting playground, cruising past the Opera House and under the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.Offshore you explore the New South Wales coast, heading south  to Jervis Bay or north towards Broughton Islands, Seal Rocks and Coffs Harbour.

Lord Howe is an absolute jewel in the Pacific with beautiful beaches and a magnificent coral lagoon. The diving and snorkeling are world class and, weather permitting, the crew will spend a couple of days relaxing and exploring this beautiful island before we set sail for the passage back to Sydney.

The Yachtmaster Ocean Traineeship in Sydney first trains you for your RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence. Then you go on to learn astro-navigation and complete a blue water qualifying passage of 600 miles or more, in preparation for the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean oral exam.

On passing your oral exam you will be qualified to take command of a sailing vessel up to 200gt on passages unrestricted by distance.
During the course your time is divided between live-aboard passages and shorebased day sailing or theory classes. We promise you expert tuition and a stimulating learning environment.
The programme is split into distinct training modules
