Summary

Volunteer at a Local Animal Shelter

You can lend a hand on the everyday tasks with the animals and also by participating in campaigns promoting the proper care of animals.
Among the things you will be able to do are working at the shelter with over 500 injured dogs and cats collaborating with the cleaning and checking of the animals. You'll have to make sure they are eating, that they are not aggressive and prevent the pain in case they are ill. You also be able to help at the veterinary where the animals are received by cleaning the cages of animals with surgeries and other routine tasks.
The objective is that you can appreciate the animal problematic where dogs live on streets at the city. The current state of the economy has left many people devastated and even homeless. Animals have been the unwitting victims of this and now sit in crowded shelters awaiting a new “forever” home. Remember, shelter animals are not second hand pets. They are loving, often well-trained animals that just want to be loved.
There are never enough hands and hiring more permanent staff isn't always an option due to budget constraints. With funding problems and overpopulation, animal shelters face challenges every day. However, their biggest struggle comes from the lack of reliable volunteers. You can help by volunteering to work at this project.

There's so much you can do! You can groom the pets, asking staff for permission before bathing or cutting hair on any pet of course! You can also help the staff with the laundry or dishes or offer to clean the bathrooms or take out the garbage. Once you have volunteered for a while and the staff are comfortable with you they may allow you to do other volunteer jobs such as fostering orphaned animals, or helping to train a special dog.
This shelter has a lot of duties that can be assigned to you. They are always in need of people to work directly with the animals to exercise them, show them to potential adopters, and just give them love and attention. Many feel that they cannot handle the emotions that come with working with animals one on one in a shelter environment. It can be a demanding role and it isn't for everyone. But, there are other jobs that are just as important. Shelters need volunteers to work in their offices, stuffing envelopes, filing, entering data, and more.
If you are a pet lover trying to make a difference then this is a project for you! You'll make lots of new friends and not just the four-legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships. You can also learn things that may lead you to the career, or career change, of your dreams. Besides, you'll never find a more grateful and accepting friend than an animal you've comforted.
