Days 1-2 – Ho Chi Minh City
Welcome to Vietnam and the start of your adventure. Arrive at your hotel and enjoy a welcome meeting with your tour leader, before the rest of today and day 2 are free to explore Ho Chi Minh City. Check out the War Remnants Museum, the historical Reunification Palace and why not enjoy some of the city’s delicious street food? Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City. (B X1)
Day 3 – Phnom Penh
Ho Chi Minh City – Phnom Penh. Say goodbye to Vietnam as we travel to the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. Ride in a traditional tuk-tuk to the Mekong River where we’ll enjoy a scenic stroll and a drink at the Foreign Correspondents Club. Overnight: Phnom Penh. (B)
Day 4 – Phnom Penh
Enjoy free time independently in the city today or why not join one of our excursions? Our optional morning sightseeing tour will visit highlights including the National Museum and the beautiful Silver Pagoda. Alternatively, choose to visit the notorious Khmer Rouge Killing Fields and Toul Sleng prison. There is also an optional cycling trip to the picturesque Koh Dach island for those feeling energetic. Overnight: Phnom Penh. (B)
Day 5 – Battambang
Phnom Penh – Battambang. Leave the capital today and travel to the ‘rice bowl of Cambodia’, the province of Battambang. We’ll visit a local pottery enroute and will also stop at the Phnom Sambov Mountain. As we travel towards the golden Wat Sampeou pagoda at the mountain summit, we’ll stop at the infamous Khmer Rouge ‘killing caves’ – which have since become a place of pilgrimage. Overnight: Battambang. (B)
Day 6 – Bamboo train and Wat Banan
Battambang – Siem Reap. This morning we’ll explore the bustling Battambang Market and discover more about Cambodian life from a local family in a nearby village. Later, take a ride on the famous bamboo train used by the locals to transport their goods before we visit Wat Banan – one of the best-preserved temples in Battambang. Later we’ll travel to Siem Reap where you’ll spend the rest of today at leisure. Overnight: Siem Reap. (B)
Day 7 – Angkor Temple Complex
Today we’ll explore Cambodia’s biggest attraction, the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat. This ancient three-tiered temple dates back to the 12th century and is so well-known it features on the Cambodian flag. Later, we’ll explore the ancient city of Angkor Thom, where the Bayon temple is known for the giant stone faces carved into its centre.
Our final visit will be to the Ta Prohm temple, famous for appearing in the Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie. You’ll then have the rest of today to explore Siem Reap as you please. Overnight: Siem Reap. (B)
Day 8 – Tonle Sap Lake
Siem Reap – Tonle Sap Lake. Today we’ll enjoy the picturesque scenery of Tonle Sap Lake, where colourful houses are built on stilts over the water. Later, we’ll return to Siem Reap where you can enjoy the rest of today at leisure – why not browse the stalls and enjoy the atmosphere at the bustling central market? In the evening there is an optional dinner and traditional Apsara dance show. Overnight: Siem Reap. (B)
Day 9 – Journey overland to Bangkok
Siem Reap – Bangkok. Today we’ll leave Cambodia behind and travel to the Thai capital Bangkok. Spend the evening exploring the exciting nightlife of the city as you please. Overnight: Bangkok. (B)
Days 10-11 – Bangkok
Spend day 10 exploring Bangkok independently – visit the Grand Palace or explore the busy markets and taste the street food of the vibrant city. Day 11 marks the end of your adventure, depart at any time for the airport and your onward flight. (B X2)
