Rafting, climbing, flying by a helicopter and exploring volcanoes - everything is combined in this exciting adventure. The holiday you will never forget!

Welcome to Far Eastern Russia! Step outside your comfort zone and embrace the vast, unspoiled wilderness of Kamchatka on this 16 day tour. Go river rafting across the Bystraya River with the chance to watch salmon and bears in their natural habitat; camp at the foot of enchanting volcanoes and be allured by the ever changing diverse landscape. Highlights include entering a crater of Mutnovsky, the most impressive active volcano in Kamchatka; visiting the indigenous people of Esso and getting acquainted with their fascinating culture; and bathing in hot springs in captivating, lush surroundings.

Day 1 – Arrival

Welcome to Russia! Arrive in Petropavlovsk where we will meet you at the airport and take to the hotel. Later on meet with your guide for an evening meal and discussion of the trip.

Day 2 – Boat trip

Take a boat trip in the beautiful Avachinskaya Bay where you can see the nesting place of many of Petropavlovsk sea birds at Grandmother’s Rock Island and Starichkov Island in the open Pacific Ocean. Enjoy an evening trip to Mutnovsky volcano. Set up camp and spend the night in a tent under the stars.

Day 3 – Explore the Mutnovsky volcano

Take in the awe-inspiring scenery as you ascend to the crater of the Mutnovsky volcano. Here you can see active boiling fumaroles, mud siphons and steep slopes made of gleaming glacier. Enjoy another night at the camp.

Day 4 – Climb the Gorely

Today, climb the Gorely volcano, hiking past flowing lava and cinder fields until you reach craters which house volcanic lakes. In the evening, relax with a swim in thermal pools.

Day 5 – Fly to the Valley of Geysers

Relax in Paratunka. Enjoy an optional excursion to Valley of Geysers by helicopter (this tour is dependent on weather conditions and is payable locally). Valley of Geysers is hidden in one of deep canyons in the Kronotsky Reserve. 25 geysers stretch here at a distance of about 5 km along the Geysernaya River stream. A trail on the terrace above the valley floor provides views down onto the Fountain Platform. In the evening, move to the Malka settlement before spending the night in a tent and bathing in thermal waters.

Day 6 – Discover the Kluchevskaya volcanoes

Today, travel onwards to the Kluchevskaya volcanoes, stopping en route for lunch in a local restaurant (payable locally). If you are lucky to visit this area when the weather is good, you are likely to have a fantastic panoramic view of some of the highest volcanoes in Kamchatka.

Day 7 – Discover the Kluchevskaya volcanoes

Discover the legacy of the 2013 volcanic eruption in Kluchevskaya where fresh lava flows. You can also see natural stone sculptures from where the lava has hardened. Afterwards, head back to camp for a night of relaxation.

Day 8 – Climb the Tolbachik cones

Transfer by car to the North Breakthrough to climb the Tolbachik cones which resemble miniature volcanoes standing at 100-200 metres tall. From here, move on to the Southern Breakthrough to walk across the “dead wood” area of slag and ash from an eruption in 1975.

Day 9 – The Kamchatka River

Travel onwards to the Kozyrevsk settlement, located on the shores of the Kamchatka River where you can take a walk to one of the oldest villages in Kamchatka and stock up on souvenirs in the local shop. Don’t forget your camera- a visit to the viewing platform will give you breathtaking panoramic views of the settlement, Kamchatka river and, of course, volcanoes. Spend the evening in a log cabin with a classic Russian banya.

Day 10 – Visit Malka Village

Today transfer to Malka Village in an all-terrain vehicle, stopping en route for lunch in a cafe and a visit to the Ethnography Museum (lunch is payable locally). Once you reach Malka you will begin rafting along Bystraya River! The evening is spent in tents beside the river.

Day 11 – Raft along the Bystraya River

Continue rafting along the Bystraya River, taking in the surrounding nature. You might even see bears or sea eagles! Enjoy some fishing before spending the evening in tents.

Day 12 – Travel back to Petropavlovsk

Make the most of your final day rafting on the Bystraya River before being transferred to Petropavlovsk for your final night in the Russian Far East.

Day 13 – Departure

Visit the local fish market and take the chance to go shopping and purchase some final souvenirs. Transfer to the airport. We hope to see you again in Russia!
