If you want to see Southeast Asia beyond the tourist hot spots, have freedom and flexibility in your itinerary, and meet other awesome travellers, then Stray is the way. We’ll take you further off the beaten track with expert local tour leaders, so you can see more and do more as you hop on and off our flexible travel network across Southeast Asia!
Where do we go?
The Stray Asia Hop-on Hop-off travel network encompasses Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. We also provide fixed itinerary Stray Journeys to the enigmatic Bhutan and wildlife paradise of Borneo.
How does it work?
We travel in one direction starting from Bangkok (Thailand) and finishing in Hanoi (Vietnam). You can purchase a hop-on, hop-off travel pass that allows you flexible travel for the places you want to visit. You can travel the whole route, or you can do just some of the route. You’ll travel with a knowledgeable, friendly guide and other like-minded travellers. Your travel pass includes your transport (train, bus and longboat transport) and is valid for 12months and you can hop-on and hop-off along the route. Your guide will help you book accommodation and activities, and give you commentary on the local history, wildlife and culture of the area.
Just your transport and some included activities. You can choose your own accommodation and activities along the way, giving you the flexibility to choose options that suit your travel style and budget.
Accommodation, activities and some meals included. You can still hop off anywhere along the route, but your first night’s accommodation and some of our top rated activities are included in your ticket.
These are fixed itinerary tours, with all accommodation, activities, and most meals included. Stray Journeys take you to hard to reach places and connect you with cultures and experiences that are truly unique to the area. You won’t be able to hop off on these tours.

Hop-On, Hop-Off and Stay Flexible
So yeah, you had a big day out on the boat and which led to a big night out and you didn’t wake up early enough to see the birds at sunrise. Don’t sweat it, stay and soak up the city for a few more days, then hop back on the next bus! All our passes include our “recommended days” which includes some time for hopping off along the route. (Please refer to our timetables to see what days we depart from each location.)
Become Immersed in Local Culture
Get stuck into sticky rice at the local markets, experience village life firsthand on our homestay accommodation, and visit more temples than you can say “Wat’s that?” at (*err yeah, “wat” means temple), with great insight into the Buddhist way of life.
Forget Travelling A to B
The Stray “road trip” experience includes plenty of time for activities en-route, whether it is a swim in a giant waterfall, checking out a gorgeous view, stopping at an important cultural monument or to feed some monkeys! Got sudden photographic inspiration? Your driver will be happy to stop for you where possible – our small group size enables us to do and see more.
Mix It Up
We’re not just a bus network – our travel passes also include train, boat and tuk tuk transport… with us, you get the full Southeast Asia experience.
Stray Close to the Action
Yes, we love to get off the beaten track, but we also include those must-do experiences on any travellers’ bucket list. Create unforgettable memories – marvel at the striking White Temple in Northern Thailand, journey through Kong Lor’s 7 km cave by long boat to discover a beautiful valley when you emerge on the other side, see Angkor Wat at sunrise, snorkel with tropical fish and stay in a remote Laos village so far off the beaten track it’s not even on Google Maps!
