Care for Animals

Animal Care Volunteering

Perfect for those interested in a career working with animals either as a vet, veterinary nurse or just giving general care, animal care volunteering placements are a great way to increase your knowledge and relevant skills for your future profession.

Animal care volunteers are stationed in either surgeries, animal centres or out in the local community, and usually work alongside professional veterinary physicians allowing time to shadow them and gain knowledge from their practises.  Regular tasks carried out by volunteers include preventative care, de-worming dogs and cats, emergency care and more. A mature attitude, the ability to work hard and a passion for the industry are all necessary for animal care volunteers as there may be lots of early morning starts, long days and hard labour to be done. Most programs include accommodation, often basic. Sometimes meals are also included or you can receive a discount on main meals.

If you’re interested in a career in animal care include an animal care project as part of your gap year itinerary and learn valuable skills and know-how to take home and apply to your own studies and/or work experience.
