Care for Disabled Children

Children with Disabilities

Care for disabled children with mental, physical or emotional disabilities on your gap year and take part in a challenging yet rewarding experience in many underdeveloped areas of the world.

Children with disabilities think and act differently, so there may be occasions when you will need to assist the disabled children with tasks able-bodied people take for granted, such as going to the toilet or having a bath.  However, you will also assist them with skills that will help create better lives for themselves, such as helping them improve their hand-eye co-ordination and interaction with other children and adults. Volunteers are also likely to be involved in the local community, maybe brushing up on the local dialect or taking part in one or two family meals.

It is very difficult not to fall in love with the personalities of these young children. Volunteering with disabled children may be demanding at times but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. There are many projects with a focus on children with disabilities to look into, so get started today!
