Medical Internships

Medical Volunteer Opportunities

Medical internships are a great way to expand your work experience in the medical field while on your gap year. Medical internships mainly involve shadowing, observing and (occasionally) assisting the doctors and medical professionals who work in the hospital. This allows volunteers to have the opportunity to see how other medical professionals from other countries deal with illness from diagnosis through to treatment.

Medical volunteer opportunities differ for those at different stages of their careers. Qualified medical volunteers such as doctors and nurses generally assist with administering medical treatment, developing resource materials and supporting the local pharmacies. Medical students spend their days observing the doctors and nurses in the wards and undertake some tasks under careful supervision. Pre-med students spend most of their time observing and will often assist in the childcare facility attached to the hospital giving general care.

Medical volunteer opportunities are based in both city and rural locations in most countries around the world. If you would like to take part in a medical internship abroad on your gap year then scroll through our product listings and contact someone who can help you.
