One of the most gorgeous countries of the world, Spain is known for food, flamenco, and football. Valencia, ‘The Land of Oranges’, is where our volunteering projects are placed, and it’s the third largest city in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona.
Valencia is a fabulous place for gap year travellers, and there’s much more than the buzzing nightlife, ancient arts, culture, shopping, and some great beach retreats. The city has one of the most beautiful and sunny coasts of Spain, with several kilometers of beaches to enjoy the sea in a warm climate and practice water sports, and that’s why it is also an important tourist destination. It will be a fun and challenging experience where you can get immersed in the Mediterranean culture, learn new skills and meet new people.

Although Spain is considered as a developed European country, where people mostly live a decent life and tourism is growing at a large scale, there are still certain sections of people in the suburban areas and outskirts of main cities, where a little help from the volunteers are needed. While the growth of tourism is highly beneficial for the economy, it has some negative impact on nature and thus, participants joining the projects in Spain will get to spend some quality time amidst nature and make some effective contribution. Also, those who love to be around kids, can work in the children projects in and around Valencia.
While volunteering In Valencia and Denia, you’ll not only get to contribute towards the environment, but you’ll also adopt the skills that are required to be a responsible traveler. Being a volunteer, you’ll get to spend time with the locals and know more about their culture and lifestyle. It’ll also be a great opportunity to learn the Spanish language, and also know how to cook the delicious cuisine, while you are on your gap year.
Conservation Program – If you wish to spend some time living amidst nature and contribute towards protecting Mother nature, then there can be no better way other than volunteering for this project. Volunteers participating in this project will add value to the lives of the locals and also educate themselves and enhance their knowledge about the ecosystem, benefits of preservation, promoting green culture and afforestation, and minimizing the environmental impact of agriculture and tourism.
Marine Conservation Program – If you are craving for some beach-time and feel like working alongside, then spend a few days in Denia, a small fishing town, located at a distance of about 100 km to the south of Valencia and home of the Marine Reserve in the Cape of San Antonio. As a volunteer for this project, you will learn new skills and contribute to minimizing the adverse environmental impact of their travel and get involved in important conservation and research programs.
Childcare Program – If you love to be around kids, then you’ll surely enjoy volunteering with the little ones from disadvantaged backgrounds, tutoring them in after-school programs in a community center. Children have many difficulties in school and do not receive as much attention as they need from their parents and relatives. Volunteers are required to give special attention, care, and love to these children.
No matter which program you choose to be a part of, your gap year experience in Spain will be absolutely brilliant and worth cherishing!
