Helping the Orangutans
Orangutans in Malaysia are facing extinction. The demand for these adorable creatures as pets is huge – this means that baby orangutans are often taken from the wild to be put in cages for human enjoyment. Fortunately, these orangutans are being rescued and brought to a sanctuary – to either be rehabilitated to the wild or to live out their days in an environment as close to the wild as possible.
This is a hands on and exciting project. Working alongside professional staff, you will get to experience their daily routine, which will involve cleaning enclosures, feeding the animals and preparing activities for the orangutans. Other tasks include food preparation, construction and general maintenance. In addition to working with orangutans, you will also have the exciting opportunity to help with the centre’s other animals – sun bears, other primates, and even leopards!
You will live in a basic yet comfortable cabin on site at the centre. You will be sharing a room with other volunteers. Cooking facilities are provided so that you can cook with your fellow volunteers. You are provided with a food budget.
Our staff will get you fully prepared beforehand and will be able to advise and help throughout. Once in Malaysia, you will be met at the airport and you will be well looked after by the project staff.
