- Take a boat trip out on the river as you try to spot orangutans, pygmy elephants and more across the river banks!
- Trek through the jungle as you study endemic flora and fauna, taking in the beauty of the rainforest as you go
- Observe orangutans which are currently undergoing rehabilitation at a nearby centre, allowing you to understand the magnitude of your efforts in volunteering.
Based in the mystical Lower Kinbatangan Floodplain Rainforest in Sabah, this orangutan project completely encompasses the awe-inspiring diversity and dynamism of Borneo’s wildlife. Situated within WWF’s protected ‘Corridor of Life’ – a region of enormous importance in balancing land-development and the needs of its indigenous communities and wildlife – this project allows complete immersion into the natural wonder of Borneo’s rainforest. The project aims to work on the reforestation of the environment as to help orangutans and pygmy elephants in Borneo to thrive – but to allow this to be possible, the assistance of volunteers is needed.
Take part in orangutan conservation initiatives such as reforestation, discover more about Borneo’s rainforests and its inhabitants, and get to know the friendly ‘Orang Sungai’ (‘People of the Forest’) as they welcome you into their environment. If you’ve ever wanted to aid conservation efforts while experiencing the best of what Borneo has to offer, then this project is for you!
Please note: we operate a strict ‘no contact’ policy; this is to ensure the safety of both the orangutans and our volunteers. You can read more about this on our website.
