Teach in an amazing place
Chile has loads to offer the traveler, with its diverse landscape stretching for thousands of miles down the coast of South America. Our teaching project is in Patagonia where you’ll find mountains, pristine lakes and friendly people. This is a great opportunity to live as a local, learn Spanish and get stuck into the Chilean way of life. You’ll soon be speaking excellent Spanish and saying hi to people you know in the street. It’s so much better than being a tourist.
After a 3 day cultural orientation – including a rafting trip and cooking classes, we’ll place you at one of our selected primary and secondary schools to teach English. It’s not as daunting as it sounds. Before you leave, you will receive training from a fully trained teacher who will give you plenty of tips beforehand about how to be an effective volunteer teacher. You will get the chance to help with extra-curricular clubs too. Coach sport, help with music or teach them something new!
During your time off, you can hang out with your host family or meet up with the other volunteers. Outdoors enthusiasts will be in heaven, with hiking, mountain bikes, camping, horse riding and kayaking all easily available. Ian, our representative, can help you book exciting trips while in Chile.
Throughout your time in Chile, you will take part in 1-1 Spanish lessons, once a week.
You will be staying with local families, eating local food, giving you the chance to progress your Spanish whilst immersing yourself within the local culture. This really is one of the best things about the project. People are surprised by how quickly they feel part of the family and how hard it is to say goodbye at the end!
Our staff will get you fully prepared before your trip. Once in Cohaique, you’ll be in the capable hands of our local Oyster reps Jacqueline and Ian, who will meet you at the airport and help you settle in.
