Teaching in Tropical Schools is an opportunity to become fully immersed in a welcoming local community and Thai culture whilst providing additional support to schools. Volunteers teach English to students aged 10-18 years at local government schools.
Your lessons help the children to develop their English language skills by encouraging speaking and listening through class participation and involvement. The volunteer role is to support the students practicing their pronunciation and to help them gain confidence in conversational English, rather than teaching grammar. The lessons should be as fun and engaging as possible, inspiring the children to love learning English!
What will I be doing?
Lessons will vary depending on students’ age and ability but may include:
- Interactive learning games
- Arts and crafts
- Listening or conversation practice
- Games and songs – the children love karaoke!
Teaching experience is not a requirement, we simply ask that volunteers are enthusiastic and imaginative and willing to learn as you teach.
Volunteers stay in their own simple Thai style bungalow with a TV and ensuite bathroom. The bungalows are set in beautiful exotic gardens, including a lake and orchid gardens. There is a traditional Thai restaurant onsite which has a TV and WIFI.
You will be based in the Donsak area which is a small traditional Thai town about 45 minutes’ drive from the main town of Surat Thani. It’s a rural farming area and isn’t visited by many tourists, so this is a fantastic opportunity to get off the beaten track and discover rural Thailand.
