Background

Zanzibar Island is part of a beautiful tropical archipelago in Tanzania, and a paradise for those who enjoy white sandy beaches and turquoise oceans. However, much like all of Africa, there is a great need for quality education in Zanzibar. Due to poverty, daily home duties and a lack of qualified teachers, students are often unable to achieve the most basic educational requirements for higher level education and career development. Thus, African Impact’s teaching volunteer project in the village of Jambiani looks to support young children and adults through free, structured education classes.

Highlights:

  • Live the tropical island dream while teaching English, caring for children and sharing your skills
  • Create exciting educational games and activities for nursery school children to help with their important development
  • Get involved at our very own school that we have built on the island, which provides free adult education classes
  • Assist in improving educational facilities within the community to help improve the learning environment for the children in the village
  • Empower the local women of Jambiani by working together on education, health and income generating projects
  • Take the chance to try a new language and learn some Swahili
  • Swim with dolphins in their natural environment, an experience you will never forget
  • Snorkel and scuba dive in some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs
