Gain amazing immersion into a rescue and rehabilitation mission of captured sun bears on the beautiful island of Borneo. Taken illegally from the wild at a young age, these bears have been caged as pets for many years with no experience of life in the wild. Rescued to this rehabilitation centre, they now have the opportunity for a new life living in freedom. As a volunteer you will help in a long-term process of care and rewilding which means that many of the bears might be lucky enough to be released back to the wild.
Volunteers will work closely with the staff here to help prepare these bears for the wilderness. You will be getting involved in enrichment, monitoring and observation, construction, husbandry and education. This means working very closely with the bears and their environment- either cleaning their enclosures, preparing their food or feeding them. Gain an incredible insight into animal care and management, all whilst making a genuine contribution to the survival of a severely endangered species.
You will live in purpose built accommodation on the edge of the jungle just 15 minutes from the rehabiltation centre. The accommodation is comfortable with twin rooms and shared bathrooms. A food budget is provided for either eating out or cooking in.
