Oyster Worldwide offer opportunities to volunteer with wildlife or solely elephants in beautiful Thailand. The great news is that these projects are seamlessly connected, so why not try a bit of time at both?
When you volunteer with the elephants you are helping to give them a good retirement after long lives of working. These elephants have been rescued from trekking, logging and entertainment, where they will have worked for many gruelling hours each day. This sanctuary provides them with a home to roam, bathe, graze and enjoy their freedom.
The animals arriving at the sanctuary have been mistreated, wounded or orphaned. You will be part of an extensive rehabilitation programme providing a new home to keep them safe and stimulated. It’s a huge task caring for over 400 animals so they genuinely need your help.
Volunteers help to prepare food for hungry elephants, feed them, bathe and exercise them. There are also more manual tasks such as painting, food harvesting and poo collecting!
A key role whilst volunteering with various wildlife is to help prepare food and feed. Other jobs include cleaning the enclosures, monitoring animal behaviour, enrichment work and helping with educational projects.
Be prepared to be flexible and to get your hands dirty!
