Tanzania – home to Mount Kilimanjaro, 12 national parks, breath-taking scenery and an array of beautiful wildlife is one of the world’s most colourful countries. Famed for its friendly, welcoming people, this large east African nation is one of the most stable and peaceful on the continent.
What will I be doing?
A Raleigh Expedition is a unique volunteering opportunity for 17 to 24 year olds combining Community and Environment volunteering with an exhilarating adventure trek for 4-10 weeks.
Community: Join a rural Tanzanian community! You will live and work alongside a local village. You might be helping improve access to clean water or building sanitation facilities and running events to promote hygiene awareness.
Environment: Deforestation has become a major problem throughout several East African countries. You and your team will work to tackle this. This could be through planting trees or speaking to community members about the importance of sustainability.
Adventure: Experience the ultimate adventure trek! For 19 days, you and your team will be trekking up to 12km a day, camping out every night and learning about the communities you pass by. Everyone will get the opportunity to lead the group for the day developing your teamwork and leadership skills. Volunteers will also visit one of Tanzania’s largest national parks, giving you the opportunity to witness the country’s amazing wildlife first hand.
On Expedition you’ll make friends from around the world and develop skills for life. Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity with over 30 years’ experience. You’ll be joining a community of over 40,000 people who have volunteered with us before so you can be sure you’ll be in safe hands.
“Tanzania was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, I’ve met wonderful people, woken up to incredible scenery and seen the change we are making.” – Zain, volunteered in Tanzania
